Think big today

It is a very bright and beautiful day in St Kitts and Nevis. I wake at sunrise and see that the grass on my lawn still display rain drops from the early morning shower. The sky is blue and cloudless, but the mountain just West of North are covered with thick clouds. The base of this mountain is only two miles up the hillside from my home, which is less than a mile up the hillside from the beach, and overlooks the Basseterre Bay. There is nothing better in the world than living on an island. Just think about it. If you miss this, you miss one of the secrets of living the "American Dream" on the best islands in the Caribbean.

Why is St Kitts and Nevis the best, because the word impossible does not dwell in our vocabulary.

Time and again we have proven that the size of our landmass and population does not decide where we can go, nor what we can do on our islands. We all know what happens here, just Google "St Kitts and Nevis" and find out. Among other things we have an International Cricket facility, an International Athletic Track facility and our Citizen By Investment [CBI] Program was the best in the World. We are a nation of optimists, we think big, all the time, and reap the benefits of thinking big.

On the personal level many of our residents and Citizens own their own homes built on 1/8 of an acre of land [5,500 sq. ft.] and larger. Many citizens have their own automobile or SUV obtained either through the active dealerships of the leading automotive brands like Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Suzuki, BMW, Land Rover, or an active importer of vehicle from Japan. My last information was 20,000 vehicles on our roads in 2017, but the car-ferry is in every three [3] weeks, and I am told that an average of 150 vehicles are offloaded onto our docks. That means over 3000 more vehicles for 2018.

When I drive around the island I see satellite dishes of all sizes, from small dishes on a roof  to large ones on a sturdy concrete base in the yard. There is no law against having a dish now so as long as you have the space and you can afford it, away you go. So think as big as you can.

Thinking big is what make your life worthwhile and your wold to spin. If you never think big you never move up in anything, nor go anywhere. Some time you have to take a leap of faith and see what can happen. Some people know what they expect but still surprise themselves. Most times their response is "I did not know it was that easy!!" Yes, it is that easy, just a thought away. You really do not have to do anything but just think, think positively, and make it happen. This sounds so simple that many people miss it.

So let me bring this down to our ham radio hobby. It is as simple at thinking big.  It cost you nothing, but can bring you everything that you need in ham radio and your life. Sometimes what you are thinking about manifests itself like magic, but some things can take a while longer to come into your environment, and some with a bit of serious encouragement. Another secret in the magic of thinking big, is not to lose focus.

When we were born our parents did not know what we would become. But here we are today a product of our thinking. Nothing is out of your reach. If you have stopped thinking, it is time to begin again, life is not at end and the best is yet to come. Cast down any negative thoughts, and push hard on the positives thoughts. Move away from people who think smaller than you, who do not see what you see, don't let their small thoughts cloud your big vision.

When I was a youth I was content with a small TV, it worked for me. Later I got a larger TV, and today I am trying to resist the temptation of placing a 6-ft TV in my living room. You know the sizing formal for TV screens and rooms, if you have forgotten check it out here.

Back to ham radio. No matter what ham radio mode you are into, whether Morse code, speech or digital modes, give yourself the latest equipment affordable. In 5 year time, or less, it will become obsolete, as the technology continues to evolve. No point buying equipment which is on the verge of obsolescence, just to save a buck. Unless you are a pessimist. Optimists always go for the latest, greatest and best available, please join the line.

If you are in the market for HF ham radio gear can I suggest that you think large and get an SDR radio. That is where the technology is going and all the makers are now focusing there. Personally, I am with Flex radio but if you like the "Made in China" tag better go for your Asian and foreign made radio. See the Flex radios here.

I always suggest that ham radio operators consult this receiver test data table for help.

If you are in the market for VHF ham radio gear, can I suggest that you stick with the old brands names in ham radio like Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu. I would stay clear of any other radios, even if the price can be as low as 20 bucks. So far I have bought three [3] of the 20 bucks radios Made in China. But then, what do you expect for 20 bucks?

Every ham radio operator with a VHF radio needs to have this FREE program

Every ham radio operator serous about their ham radio may wish to invest in this program

Take time to peruse these software programs, think big, dream big, outside the box, and carry your ham radio to another level.  Thinking big is not just for your ham radio, but for every situation in life. Whatever we want to receive, we have. As an optimist I do not know how pessimists think, but I do know that they do not reach as high as the optimists do. Do yourself a favour and enlarge your thinking now. Turn on the hose to a better quality of life by thinking big every single day of your life.
